The Manifesto

My name is Gentil Fernandes, I was born in 1982 with a passion for drawing and self expression.

Largely a self taught artist, I have learnt as much through theory as through practice – having studied art and graphic communication in High School, and later on studying Multimedia at NMIT.

My goal is to achieve something through my art; it is my form of self expression, and my way of telling a story to what I consider a largely complacent, yet troubled world. My work reflects my sorrows, my ideals, my frustrations and my memories. As with any form of art, there is different meaning to those who look upon it.

The style I have adopted is one of implied detail rather than accuracy, especially with my paintings. There is a certain juxtaposition to my work; the vivid, almost cheery colours used often belie the meaning behind the painting. Never fear, it’s not all deep and meaningful, we all need to have some fun every now and then.

If I can touch one person in this life, offer them a different perspective, then I have achieved something I deem worthy of achieving. That is my intent. That is my purpose.
